1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour (heat-treated for safety)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

For the Pastry:
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, flour, and salt, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Fold in mini chocolate chips.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Spread the cookie dough evenly over half of the pastry.
  4. Fold the pastry in half over the cookie dough, gently pressing down. Slice the dough into 1-inch strips.
  5. Twist each strip several times and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each twist with egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar if desired.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Freeze the cookie dough for 10 minutes before spreading for easier handling.
  • For a chocolate drizzle, melt additional chocolate chips and drizzle over the twists once cooled.
